  • Well located, but little outdated hotel. Rooms are nicely refurbished though. Staff could be more friendly and professional, especially at the breakfast room.Business Room

  • Because I was on a business trip near ITC, many hotels were far away and finally chose Jianguo Hotel. I really didn't admit my disappointment. The geographical location is very good. It is very convenient to take a taxi, bus and subway. It is also very close to Zhen Street. The service of the hotel is also very up to standard, that is, the price of French food is really a little too expensive!Business Room

  • The old hotel has a very good service attitude. Maybe due to aging, the ceramic tile on the top of my room suddenly fell off when I checked in. Fortunately, it didn't hurt anyone.Business Room

  • The hotel environment is very good. It is a rare city garden. It is located next to yong'anli subway station. Next door is Starbucks and Xiushui is near the street. The geographical location is very superior. At breakfast every day, I feel like I'm abroad because there are all crooked nuts around... In the middle, there are some troubles in the bathtub. The hotel can reasonably solve them. The overall service is good. I just hope the facilities will be updated in time. I will choose Jianguo Hotel next time I go to BeijingBusiness Room

The garden on the first floor is too dirty. It is estimated that the garden will be wasted if it is not cleaned some day.Business Room

Travelogue

  • On a business trip, I stumbled upon a calm and composed old Beijing vibe

I didn't choose the efficient chain business hotel in CBD for this industry annual conference in Beijing. Instead, I listened to the recommendation of local partners and decided to stay at Jianguo Hotel Beijing on Jianguomen Outer Street. Originally, it was only planned that it would be less than ten minutes' drive from the venue. However, this business trip unexpectedly broke away from the tense feeling of the previous "hotel venue high-speed railway station" three point line.
As soon as I checked in, I was hit by the details. There was no cold electronic call at the front desk. When the receptionist handed me the room card with both hands, he handed me a printed note: "We have already noted your appointment for the 7:00 tomorrow morning bus. The breakfast restaurant downstairs will open at 6:30, so there is no need to rush." Pushing open the room door was even more unexpected. There was no cold metal wind piled up for business sense, and the dark brown wood grain desk was spacious enough to spread out three project materials. The light of the desk lamp by the window was adjusted just right, not as bright as many hotels. Even the Ethernet interface was thoughtfully left in the most convenient side position, so there was no need to squat on the ground and look for half a day.
The most surprising thing is the hotel's business center, which is not the kind of corner where two printers make up the number. I had to make a last-minute change to a plan of over twenty pages. At one o'clock in the morning, the on duty master not only helped me adjust the binding format, but also handed me a cup of hot barley tea: "Business travelers who often come here like to stay up late to change materials, and our printer here never shuts down." Later, I found out that many foreign trade people in old Beijing chose the business center here as their first stop when they talked about cooperation in the early years. Over the past forty years, this proper habit has been retained to this day.
The next day at noon, I scheduled a meeting with a client at the hotel's Western restaurant to discuss business. There was no noisy background music, and the old man next to me said that he had signed his first order at this location when he first came to Beijing in the 1980s to discuss cooperation. The food is not a simple business meal on the assembly line. The steak is cooked just right, and even the accompanying pickles are marinated by the kitchen. After discussing the main business, the customer smiled and said, "It's much more comfortable to discuss things here than in a coffee shop in the CBD. ”
In the evening before returning, I squeezed out half an hour and walked around the hotel's small garden. I usually stare at the schedule on my phone when I go on business trips. That day, I saw that the roses on the porch were blooming perfectly. A few colleagues who had just finished a meeting were sitting on the bench chatting, and no one was talking about KPIs. They all said it was their first business trip and they didn't feel tired.
I used to think that business trips should be fast and efficient, but this time I stayed at Jianguo Hotel Beijing and realized that a good place to stay on a business trip is never a bed that can sleep. It can catch the fatigue of changing plans until early morning, leave a relaxed space for you and clients to have a conversation, and in the fast-paced Beijing, leave a calm and composed atmosphere for those on the road. Next time I come to Beijing for a business trip, I will definitely choose this place.Show more

  • Staying at the Jianguo Hotel in Beijing: Catching a handful of slow time from old Beijing by Chang'an Avenue

This business trip to Beijing, I deliberately did not choose a chain business hotel. With the advice of my old Beijing friend, 'If you want to find a place to stay with roots, go to Jianguo Hotel,' I settled for Jianguo Hotel Beijing next to Chang'an Avenue. At the moment of pushing open the revolving door, the hustle and bustle of the journey was suddenly scattered by the warm and cozy lights in the room.
There is no deliberate cool luxury like in modern hotels. The old counters in the lobby are made of deep brown wood, and the leather sofas with warm edges are polished. Even the air is filled with a faint mixture of old books and aromatherapy. The receptionist handed over the room card with a smile and said that this hotel had been open since 1982, which was one of the earliest joint venture hotels in Beijing. Many foreign guests came here as their first stop. I touched the outline of the old building printed on the room card and suddenly felt that it was not a simple proof of occupancy, but more like a key to unlock old times.
My room faces east, and it's past six in the morning. The sunlight seeps in through the sheer curtains, making the outline of the old desk lamp on the table soft. On the small table by the window, there are two celadon tea cups, not the same disposable tea bags, but a small jar of local jasmine tea. I boiled a pot of water, and when the smell of tea came out, I could see the old locust tree outside the Jianguo Gate downstairs. The master of morning exercise was swinging a whip to walk the birds. The students in school uniforms were walking towards the alley with soybean milk in their hands. This was the fresh smoke and fire that could not be seen in the CBD high-rise buildings.
What surprised me the most was the breakfast at the restaurant. There were no fancy Western dishes like those in popular hotels, but the sincerity of old Beijing was fully displayed. The fried coke ring still emits oil stars, and the fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold is boiled to the right consistency, so I drink it with a small dish of shredded mustard, warming my throat to my stomach. Seeing that I was a stranger, the aunt at the stall also gave me an extra piece of candy to burn: "Girl, taste this, put enough sesame paste, which is the old taste we have been doing here for decades." The french window of the restaurant is facing the small garden, and several white haired foreign grandfathers sit by the window, talking in less fluent Chinese that the last time they came to Beijing was 1998, and the white pine outside the window was not so high at that time.
After finishing my business in the afternoon, I didn't take a taxi back to my room and walked slowly around the small garden of the restaurant. Although the wisteria on the porch has passed its flowering period, its leaves are still green and shiny. A few guests sit on the benches chatting, including a family of three who came for tourism and old business travelers who often stay here. No one is urging you to rush, even the wind has eased your steps. Passing by the old photo wall of the restaurant, I saw doormen in sharp uniforms welcoming guests in the 1980s, and the Western restaurant was filled with tourists holding cameras. Suddenly, I realized that this restaurant has never used "old" as a selling point. It has truly accompanied Beijing for more than 40 years, incorporating the people I have seen and the stories I have experienced into the patterns of every floor.
In the past, when I came to Beijing, I was always busy rushing to tourist attractions and crowded on the subway, making my schedule very tight. This time staying at Jianguo Hotel Beijing, I suddenly understood another taste of traveling: there's no need to chase after check-in points. In the old western-style house next to Chang'an Avenue, I can drink a cup of jasmine tea, take a bite of the hot candy fire, and catch a handful of leisurely old time that belongs exclusively to Beijing. On the day I left, the front desk handed me a small bag of homemade osmanthus cake and said that I would stay here again next time I came to Beijing. Holding the bag of warm Dim sum, I suddenly felt that I had stayed in a hotel for a night. It was clear that I had stolen a soft old day in the fast-paced Beijing.Show more
